Lovely visiting this special place

The month of May is here and I’ve been on a wonderful trip to the Algarve, in Portugal visiting the Corte-Real Gallery who are now selling my artwork and to sketch the beautiful coastline.

Since I’ve been back I’ve enjoyed several hot days sketching the light, sea and sky at Holkham beach.

Now I’m loving sorting the garden for opening my studio at the end of May.

After the reflections during the Easter break, it’s back to the studio happily creating new work for the annual Norfolk & Norwich Open Studios 2018. I really enjoy taking part is this event as it’s a wonderful opportunity to meet new and regular visitors. The free brochures are out and should be available in lots of shops, libraries and galleries around Norfolk as well as online. This year I’m enjoying working on several small scale 15x15cm paintings as well as showing a new selection of prints and greeting cards – everything is for sale! New Gallery in Portugal

Delighted to have been invited to exhibit some new paintings with the Corte Real Gallery in the Algarve in Portugal. The gallery contacted me at the beginning of the year saying how much they liked my work and that it was ‘those endless skies that does it for us’  These large artworks measure 104 x 104 cm square and were inspired by my recent walks along the stunning North Norfolk coast. I really enjoyed creating these pieces and just ordered some extra blue paint!

‘Coastal Walk’                                                       ‘Light of the Day’

It’s March and a dramatic weather front called the ‘Beast from the East’ brought deep snow and freezing cold winds. Trying to keep the studio warm enough to work in was challenging as even my paint water froze! Despite the cold there were work deadlines looming to complete four large scale paintings 104 x 104 cm for a new gallery called the Corte Real Gallery in the Algarve, Portugal. As you can see from the photographs most of my inspiration for this month has come from sketching at Holkham beach, well known for its vast skies and sandy beach.  I spent a wonderful morning sketching the horizon watching the clouds drifting by and the tide flowing in. These sketches were used  as a reference to create two of the artworks which are wrapped and ready for shipping out to Portugal.

     

      

It’s been a very enjoyable journey but also frustrating at times when things just don’t seem to flow and work up how I want them! but I guess that’s part of being an artist….

Thank you to everyone who has signed up to my summer workshops, they are now both fully booked and if there is enough interest then I’m considering holding another one, so do get in touch if you’re looking to try something new!

February is here, the snowdrops are out and I’ve been walking along the North Norfolk coast for some quick sketching sessions.

Since the middle of January I have been enjoying working on several large scale coastal paintings.  These mixed media artworks measure 100 x 100cm and shall be available at various new outlets, galleries, exhibitions and Norfolk Open Studios.  Some of this new collection will be on display during my two solo shows this summer:

‘LIGHT’  shall be taking place at Salthouse Church along the North Norfolk coast 14 – 29 July

‘Norfolk Horizons’ shall be at Creake Abbey Cafe 13 June – 11 September

Norwich 20 Group exhibition | Norwich Theatre Royal | 25 Jan – 23 April

I have two artworks on show with the Norwich 20 Group of artists upstairs in the Adnams  bar area of the Theatre Royal in Norwich. The Norwich 20 Group has a firmly established regional art presence with active involvement by its selected members. After over 70 years membership has grown to almost 90 artists, which include painters, sculptors, digital video, installation & conceptual artists, printmakers and photographers. The group maintains a vibrant connection with the city’s cultural life. This exhibition gives a snapshot of the wide variety of approaches from a selection of artists creating paintings and drawings.

Artists included in this exhibition: Peter Baldwin, John Bardell, Sarah Cannell, David Chedgey, Richard Cleland, Colin Devine, Bridget Anne Hague, Gillian Hickling, Gennadiy Ivanov, Yusuf Keten, Diana Lamb, Rachael Long, Frances Martin, John Midgley, Peter Offord, John Rance, Tracey Ross, Sandra Rowney, Jane Sanger, Ann-Mari Stevens, Barry Watkins, Monika Wesselmann, Joceline Wickham, Juliet Wimhurst and David Woods.

I have been invited to host a solo show called LIGHT at Salthouse Church. I couldn’t think of a more stunning setting in which to express my faith and a spiritual connection calling me to sense the beautiful light of the North Norfolk coast.

The Private View is on Friday 13th July time 6 till 9pm. Join mailing list for an invite.

The exhibition will be opening daily showcasing my recent artworks, prints and cards.  During the exhibition there will be a church service every Sunday morning at 9.45am followed by coffee/tea afterwards. On Saturday 21st July at 7.30pm a lively band called Cutting the Mustard shall be helping to raise money for the Church with a folk concert. All welcome. Tickets will be available on the church door. On the last day of my exhibition on the 29th July there will be a Sea Sunday service at 3.00pm and my exhibition shall close at 6pm.
