Expressive Coastal Art Workshops with artist Tracey Ross

 Saturday 30th June & Saturday 7th July 2018 – 10am-4pm

at Burnham Overy Staithe Village Hall, New Road, PE31 8JD

This year I am running 2 exciting workshops called ‘from sketch to painting’. Enjoy a day using mixed media techniques, suitable for beginners and the more experienced artists who want to develop their work further.

The idea is to spend the morning sketching along the coastal path and around the harbour of Burnham Overy Staithe and to gain some hands on experience with sketching out in the open. If it is too wet to sketch we shall use this time working in the village hall.

Then after lunch everyone will choose one of their sketches to work up into a final painting using mixed media. There will be tuition and demonstrations throughout the day with useful tips on how I work as an artist. The aim is for everyone to have a fun and enjoyable day learning lots of new ideas about the challenges of sketching and how to take a sketch into a painting.

The cost for the day is £50 per person.

Please bring your own art materials for the day and a packed lunch. A materials list will be provided once your booking has been confirmed.

Tea, coffee, cold refreshments and biscuits will be available.

All workshops need to be paid in full beforehand and any fees will not be refundable in the event of a student’s non-attendance.

Just a few ideas for some last minute gift ideas – these original small scale artworks measure  15x15cm square and there’s free postage and packaging during December.

Capturing Wintry Light!

Norfolk is famous for its vast skies and stunning light and the winter season has so much to offer even on a very dull day! Mixing tones of various greys using Paynes grey, Ultramarine blue, Titanium White and a hint of purple does wonders for capturing the coastal light over the marshes.  This painting ‘Salty Marsh Sky’ shows how I’ve used these colours to depict a winter sky over the marshes at Stiffkey.  By working quickly and applying layers of thin paint either with a brush or palette knife an interesting sky effect can bring the drama of the sky to life!

‘Soft Tidal Creeks’ is now on show at Pocock’s the Artmonger Gallery in Burnham Market – I loved painting this one.

These recent  paintings are influence by my inspiring stay at the Watch House at Blakeney Point. The soft tones and tactile elements of the mixed media reflects the mood and ambience experienced whilst sketching the creeks.

PAINTERS  – at the Black Barn, Cockley Cley, Nr Swaffham, PE37 8AN. The PAINTERS exhibition curated by Hugh Pilkington. Opening times Sat 19th 20th 26th 27th Aug times 11am – 1pm A stunning collection of artists including Mari French, Ann Allanson, Kate Giles, Elaine Banham and Michael Horn. Well worth seeing if you love paint!

I’m now taking a short break to be STILL before beginning a new body of work. Time for some peace and to enjoy the August light with lots of slow walks along the coast.

Busy getting everything finished off, framed and ready for my solo show at Pocock’s the Artmonger Gallery in Burnham Market. For those who enjoy seeing sketchbooks I shall have mine on display showing how I use mixed media in my sketches giving an insight into the process of creating the finished paintings. The show opens on Saturday 22nd July until Sunday 6th August. Open daily Monday – Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 12-4pm. All welcome.
