Solo Exhibition at Burnham Overy Staithe Boathouse 14 -18 August 2024

Painting of Wells beach with a gentle tide by Tracey Ross Artist

‘Burnham and Beyond’ marks my debut solo exhibition at The Boathouse. Opening: Wednesday 14th to Sunday 18th August. Open daily: 10am – 5pm.

My work is inspired by the horizon, as reflected in my sketchbooks, offering a glimpse into my passions and artistic process. These sketches convey the emotions evoked by a location – capturing the energy and fleeting light. Subsequently, I transform these sketches into larger semi-abstract pieces in my studio.

The connection between sketching out in nature and painting on canvas is what truly ignites my passion. By combining colours, layering paint, and using Inktense blocks and tissue paper, captivating artworks are brought to life.

I have many happy childhood memories of walking out to the beach and often enjoy sketching on Scolt Head Island. I usually take the ferry out there, and walk back along the Cockle Path during low tide, but always check the tides first! This allows me to stop and capture the transient atmosphere of the sky and the colours of the sand and marsh.

Paintings of other favourite places in the solo show include Brancaster Staithe, Holkham, Salthouse, the marshes at Stiffkey and beyond.

As well as my original paintings there will be a variety of prints, cards, and sketchbooks on display – you may even find me sketching during the exhibition.

I aim to be there everyday and look forward to welcoming you.
